CHRONICLE OF DEATH

It is estimated that during the epidemics in Valjevo more than 3,500 soldiers, 4,000 civilians and around 2,000 Austro-Hungarian prisoners were killed. Among the victims there was also a great numbe rof those who were fighting the epidemics: doctors, nurses and medical staff. Of 534 doctors then in Serbia, it is estimated that the epidemics of typhus fever killed about 150 civilian and military doctors, members of foreign medical missions and Austro-Hungarian prisoners. Today the 122 names are known. Many Serbian and foreign doctors died in Valjevo or in other hospitals where they were evacuated for treatment.
